STARTING A CLUB AT YOUR SCHOOL

Before starting a club at your school, there is one thing you need to do first, make sure the institution has courts. Getting a college to allot funds to building racquetball courts can be difficult. However, if your school doesn't have courts but you have acces to courts localy this may not be a problem.

The next step is the most important, to get your organization recognized by the school. This process usually involves visiting an office at your school, here it is the student life office, and getting the paperwork. Normally the paperwork involves, a consititution and bylaws and form that requires signatures from club members. See samples of a constitution here. Once your recognized by the school you can work with scheduling to reserve courts for practice, ask for funding and schedule time in meeting rooms inorder to meet about club matters.

The next thing you want to do is work on growing the club in recruiting new members. You can do this using several methods, see here for recruitment methods. Once you have deepened your ranks, it's time to start looking at tournaments. Look for upcoming tournaments and take as many of your players as will go. Your club will truly benefit from tournament play and your players will become more dedicated as the tournaments are the best part of college racquetball.

The next step is funding and fundraising, so that you can afford to travel without paying money out of pocket. Start saving for nationals early, it is not cheap. Identify funding sources on campus and don't take no for an answer, one of the best places to start is your university and student boards.

There are about a million ways to fundraise, this is completely up to you but it is amazing how much cash you can raise with just a few fundraisers. I think most clubs raise most of there funds by hosting tournaments. This not only raises club funds but also contributes to the college racquetball community. Racquetball sponsorship is also an option check our sponsorship information for more info on this.

Thats is pretty much it, once your growing, recognized, funded, sponsored and traveling you have accomplished more than most clubs do.
